Family Law
Family law covers a wide range of different types of cases. My practice aims to provide you with the service you need, whether it’s help filling out forms, a consultation, or full representation from start to finish. Here are the areas my firm specializes in, and some additional information about each.
If you have additional questions about a type of family law not listed here, please reach out to our office via email or phone to discuss a consultation.
Divorce: Divorce law deals with the dissolution of marriage. This can include issues such as property division, alimony or spousal support, child custody, and child support.
Legal Separation: This is an agreement that divides property, sets an arrangement for raising your children, and ends the financial connection you have to your spouse. However, it can be reversed, whereas a divorce cannot.
Preparing Forms for Couples: In the case where a couple agrees on all issues in their divorce, we can prepare the paperwork. We cannot, however, provide any legal advice.
Paternity: Paternity law establishes legal fatherhood, including determining child support and custody arrangements.
Adoption: Adoption law governs the process by which a person becomes the legal parent of a child who is not biologically their own. This can include domestic adoption, international adoption, and stepparent adoption.
Guardianship: Guardianship refers to the legal role of an individual who manages the personal activities or resources of another person who cannot properly do so on their own. Usually, this is used to give responsibilities of managing a child’s welfare to someone who is not their parent.
Conservatorship: Conservatorship is the appointment of an individual by the court to manage a person’s affairs and assets when they have been deemed unable to handle them due to their mental capacity, age, or physical disability.
Protection From Harassment: This is a form of legal protection that is designed to protect individuals from unwanted or threatening behavior. This may include physical, verbal, or electronic harassment, stalking, or other forms of threatening or intimidating behavior.
Protection From Abuse: While similar to Protection from Harassment, Protection from Abuse is a legal protection specifically designed to protect individuals from domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of abuse. This is also called a restraining order, or protective order.
Parental Rights: In regard to parental rights, we provide legal assistance, representation, and advise on many facets related to the legal rights and issues surrounding parents or guardians and their children. This can include custody, visitation, and child support, to name a few.
